The only piece left.
This is Alice Dreger writing to you today, with Courtney's permission, to let you know of a very unexpected turn in Courtney's life.
On May 9, a house fire led to a total loss of Courtney's artwork and personal belongings. Fortunately, no people were hurt or killed in the fire – Courtney was outside painting when it happened – but when Courtney called to tell me about it, the sense of loss was palpable. Only a couple of pieces survived, including the one you see above. The space that burned was his living space as well as his studio.
Incredibly, Courtney is determined to continue with plans for a show at The Point, now set for Saturday, May 25. We're helping him get the supplies he needs to create new work. His perseverance shows how much art moves him, perhaps especially at a time like this.
Today Courtney set up a GoFundMe fundraiser so that he can keep working as an artist. If you've been watching Courtney's progress, you know he's been on an upward trajectory in terms of recognition and appreciation of his talents and vision. He's been doing really well. Needless to say, this is a potential huge setback.
If you can help, please do so. You can read more about the situation in Courtney's own words here.
Thank you so much for all your support.
