“Service” Detroit Art Show
“Service” Art Show was held February 12th and 13th, (sponsored by Tamiko Beals, Jonathan Slocumb, 25th Investments, Life In Color Art Gallery, & Mr.&Mrs.Jolliff) honoring celebrating and thanking all the wonderful people who have contributed to Courtney Jolliff, in any capacity, during his homeless journey. “I believe the people who gifted me food, sleeping bags, tents, couches, showers, tips, commissions, donations, etc are truly art. To help a community member in need, to experience it, to understand it, that’s art. My hopes are to share the blessings from each sale with the very subjects of the art, the people.” - Courtney Jolliff’s response to being asked what was the show title and why.

“It was the definition of a completely successful art show, and because it paid homage to service and reinstalled harmony. Something art should be all about. Did I sale any art? I have to , that’s my path in life. But the better question is, how many hearts have I touched? How many minds have I helped stay strong? Who have I inspired? Who did I protect? How have I been of service? I am grateful for so much in life, but money isn’t one of them. Im grateful for the hands and hearts of community and for water, for beds, for food.” - Courtney Jolliff reply when asked “How much did the show bring in?”

“I can’t believe I got to see myself do everything me and Raub would do in the art residency. Everything he taught me, I watched myself do. From hosting, to preparing, to creating. To speaking. I moved in this place the 21st of January and made 140 pieces plus for this show starting from that date with whatever I could find. The hardest I ever had to work and was so proud that the fire , didn’t burn down what really was forged at the art residency. A prodigy that’s here for the people, by the people. I love Hyde park , Chicago, so much and wouldn’t be here without them. It’s a new scary journey here in Detroit no matter how nice, because of that very love for Chicago and the community we have built together. I miss them and am truly being brave and humble to share my gifts with another city. Wish me luck!”
