Little Black Pearl

"It was such a joy."

On Jan. 21, Courtney participated in a special National Day of Racial Healing event at Little Black Pearl in Chicago:

"It was such a joy," he says, explaining that "they rotated people of all ages and races to collaborate on painting but had 3-7 minute time limits per canvas. By the end, your initial piece was shared by others."

"While they were doing that and an instructor led them, I was painting a live community painting. I am super grateful to Little Black Pearl for the opportunity to create this community painting for their racial healing event! I chose to liberate the story of Emmit Till who was robbed of his future but sacrifice serves still today on so many black men who do get to grow old. The focus was love joy and childhood memory, I chose my memories of Joy Rd porch days."
